Zimbabwe
The Archbishop's International Development Secretariat has been working directly with the five Anglican dioceses of Zimbabwe since 2007 to support their ongoing relief and development work. In 2009 the Archbishops of Canterbury and York launched an appeal for Zimbabwe in partnership with USPG: Anglicans in World Mission. Information on how this money has been spent helping local communities is detailed below. Following this Appeal the Archbishop of Canterbury's office has continued to maintain close relationships with the local Anglican church in Zimbabwe, helping to foster new partnerships with Anglican agencies and providing access to capacity building through agencies such as Tearfund.
In addition the Archbishop of Canterbury stands in solidarity with the Anglican dicoeses of Zimbabwe as they continue to face persecution from security forces in Zimbabwe. Press releases and newspaper articles listed below give a flavour of the public work that is being carried out by the Archbishop to support the local church in Zimbabwe, and his office maintains a number of channels of advocacy with a range of stakeholders.
