The Council of Anglican Provinces in Africa (CAPA)
The Archbishop's International Development Secretariat works to support the Council of Anglican Provinces in Africa (CAPA) in its social development and HIV, TB and Malaria Programme, by highlighting the contribution that faith communities and leaders make to fighting these persistent but preventable diseases, and by brokering innovative partnerships with non governmental organisations working in this area, for capacity building and resources mobilisation. CAPA is the council and secretariat established by the Primates of Africa to coordinate issues affecting the Church across the region. Its goal is to coordinate and articulate issues affecting the Church and communities across the region.
The International Development Secretariat (IDS) has been instrumental in helping to establish a consortium of other agencies also working to fight HIV, TB and Malaria. This group has enabled the collaborative design of funding proposals to international donors including the EU, Global Fund and the UN.
There are many Anglican bodies and churches who are working to support those who live with HIV, by providing ongoing care and love at the grassroots but also challenging stigma, and participating in global dialogue on development policy. The IDS seeks to build bridges between and highlight the work already being done not only by CAPA, but by a host of mission and development agencies, Anglican advocacy groups across the Communion.
CAPA recently co-hosted the first regional consultation of the newly formed Anglican Alliance for development, relief and advocacy.
