Archbishop's sadness at death of Dean of Southwark, The Very Revd Colin Slee
Friday 26th November 2010
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has expressed his sadness on learning of the death of the Dean of Southwark, The Very Revd Colin Slee."Colin's untimely death robs the Church of England of one of its most generous, energetic and creative pastors. His ministry at Southwark Cathedral brought astonishing vigour and freshness to every aspect of the cathedral's life - from the basic work of fundraising, which has been so successful in transforming the whole neighbourhood, through to the welcome and excitement the cathedral has given to all kinds of people who might not have expected to feel so at home in a church.
It robs Edith and the children of an exciting and dearly-loved presence; and for all those who, like myself, counted Colin as a friend, it leaves a massive gap. A brilliant, warm, larger-than-life man, Colin was a passionate and faithful friend, and a wonderful, challenging colleague.
We thank God for him, and pray for strength and comfort for the family."
