The Archbishop on Inter Faith

Saturday 7th November 2009

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. Rowan Williams, visited Burnley to find out more about inter-faith relationships in the town, as part of his Diocesan visit to Blackburn.

Dr Williams was guest of honour at an inter faith seminar held at Burnley and Pendle Faith Centre, in Barden Lane, during a three-day trip to East Lancashire organised by the Blackburn Diocese.

The Archbishop spent two hours at the centre listening to presentations from young people from the Bridge Project, Fr Michael Waters, parish priest at St John's RC Church, Ivy Street, and Mr Abdul Hamid Qureshi, chairman of the Lancashire Council of Mosques.

Dr Williams then shared some reflections with around 50 delegates, which also included the Mayor and Mayoress of Burnley, Coun. John Harbour and Mrs Gillian Harbour and the Bishop of Burnley, the Rt Rev. John Goddard, and Bishop of Blackburn the Rt Rev. Nicholas Reade where he talked about the environment and the relationship between the Catholic and Anglican churches.
