Archbishop on the Lambeth Palace Library Exhibition

Wednesday 12th May 2010

BBC Radio 4's Mark Lawson talks to the Archbishop of Canterbury and Deputy Librarian Gabriel Sewell on the launch of the unique exhibition to mark the 400th anniversary of the Lambeth Palace Library.

The Treasures of the Lambeth Palace Library Exhibition draws upon the Library's incomparably rich and diverse collections of manuscripts, archives and books, some of which will be on display for the first time.

The Archbishop explains on the Front Row programme how the Library is "very much a thread in the whole history of Britain" and that he often uses it to research for lectures.

Gabriel Sewell tells Mark how Archbishop Bancroft stole 500 books from the Royal Library and a lot still remain in the Lambeth Palace Library today.
