Archbishop and Chief Rabbi's personal farewell

Wednesday 14th November 2012

In a warm meeting at Lambeth Palace yesterday, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, and the Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks, met for a personal farewell to reflect on their shared experiences of leadership over the past decade.

Over the course of the meeting they agreed how important it has been over the last ten years that there has been such a strong and close relationship between them, continuing the relationship upon which the Council of Christians and Jews was founded 70 years ago.

They wanted to encourage a younger generation of Christians and Jews, particularly students, to continue the work of dialogue.

Finally, they reaffirmed their conviction that Christian-Jewish dialogue and inter faith dialogue is important not just for the religious communities themselves, but for the good of the wider society which they have expressed consistently over the last years and particularly through the dialogue convened by the Inter Faith Network for the UK during last year’s Inter Faith Week on the topic of Living Well Together in Britain Today.
