Churches up and down the country are getting in the Olympic spirit with giant screenings, volunteering at the Games, hosting athlete's families and other celebratory events. Churches on many of the sporting routes are opening their doors to visitors - London diocese has launched Faith Walks around its historic churches to mark the summer of sport. Others nationwide rang in the event by supporting All the Bells.
Archbishop Rowan, in welcoming the Games, said they "had captured the imagination of the nation".
