Archbishop on BBC Radio 3 - Vernon Watkins: Swansea's Other Poet

Poet Vernon Watkins, 1906—1967

Sunday 11th March 2012

Archbishop Rowan Williams presents "Vernon Watkins: Swansea's Other Poet' in a programme broadcast on BBC Radio 3's Sunday Feature slot.

The Archbishop argues that Watkins should be recognised as one of the twentieth century's most brilliant and distinctive voices, saying:

"His reputation after his death seems to have faded; yet contemporary readers opening his works will find immensely sophisticated, deep, emotionally challenging and metaphorically rich work which deserves close attention, long reading and re-reading."
