Archbishop meets President Bingu wa Mutharika of Malawi

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, met with President Bingu wa Mutharika and spoke about his pleasure at being able to take part in 150th anniversary celebrations of the Anglican Church in Malawi.During the meeting Dr Williams expressed his support for the efforts of the local Church in seeking a peaceful resolution, through dialogue, to the ongoing differences that the country is facing.
The Archbishop also spoke about his visit earlier that morning to a secondary school run by the Anglican Church, and said that he looked forward to seeing some of the vital work of the Church in delivering grassroots development projects, especially those making a difference in rural communities where sustainable farming initiatives were proving crucial to achieving food security.
Dr Williams was accompanied by the Archbishop of Central Africa, the Most Revd Albert Chama, and the Bishop of Southern Malawi and Chairman of the Anglican Council in Malawi, the Rt Revd James Tengatenga.
