Archbishop and the Security of Faith Communities
Tuesday 18th May 2004
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has today hosted a seminar on issues relating to the security of faith communities. The seminar at Lambeth Palace brought together some 30 representatives from a range of faith communities, agencies and organisations in England.Under the title, 'Looking after each other: the security of our faith communities', participants explored the challenges they faced and ways in which they could work together to increase a shared sense of security among all communities.
Dr Williams convened the meeting in the wake of conversations with religious leaders deeply concerned by recent incidents, which had left members of their communities feeling under attack.
Dr Williams said: "This was an immensely useful meeting which gave us all an opportunity to share experiences and perspectives, and to reflect on what more we might hope to do at a practical and co-operative level. We need to find more and more practical forms of mutual support in the face of hostility and abuse suffered by people and communities of faith."
