Archbishop - 'earthquake tragedy'

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has sent a message to church leaders in Pakistan and India following the earthquake in the region.In his letter to Bishop Alexander Malik, the Moderator of the Church of Pakistan and Bishop James Teron, the Moderator of the Church of North India, Dr Williams speaks of his distress on hearing of the devastation and assures them of prayers as they tackle the work of rescue and recovery.
Dr Williams is currently in Trondheim, Norway for a meeting of the Porvoo Primates.
The full text of the message is below:
"My dear brothers
We have heard with great distress the news of the terrible devastation caused this weekend in Pakistan and India by the earthquake. In Britain, where so many of our communities have links with the region, the impact of this tragedy is keenly felt and our thoughts are very much with you. It seems clear that many of the Christian communities under your care will have been affected but I am sure that many will already be deeply involved in the work of rescue and care.
Please be sure that your brothers and sisters in England are with you in your grief and shock, and are praying God to strengthen you all in witness and loving service.
With love in Christ and every blessing to you and your people."
