Archbishop addresses Affirming Catholicism National Day in Bristol

Monday 20th July 2009

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, will attend a national conference of Affirming Catholicism on Monday 20th July, at Bristol Cathedral.

Dr Williams will address the conference on the  theme, "Catholic and Evangelical - two sides of the same coin?" before joining a panel discussion with the Rev'd Angela Tilby and the Rev'd Joanthan Clark, Chair of Affirming Catholicism.

Rev'd Jonathan Clark, Chair of Affirming Catholicism UK & Ireland, said:

"We are very glad to welcome the Archbishop of Canterbury to this important event in the life of Affirming Catholicism. Affirming Catholicism is a movement which seeks to provide encouragement and resources not only to one particular group, but to the whole Church in its mission in the world. We also have much to learn from other traditions within the Church, and we thank the Archbishop for both encouraging us and challenging us as we look to the future."

The Archbishop said:

"I am very pleased to be taking part in this event. Affirming Catholicism has a significant role in helping the whole Church make the most intelligent and creative use of its traditions of worship and doctrine, and I hope to see its contribution deepen and flourish"
